Unit 5 Dialogues

Three dialogues and two short readings, line by line: two men outside a restaurant, a meal service on a plane, a husband who arrives hungry at the wrong moment โ€” then the same people written about instead of speaking. Read each line aloud before ๐Ÿ”Š, reveal the meaning only when you need it.

Reproduced from the class textbook, Unit 5 pp.1โ€“3, 5โ€“6 (photos in your library) ยท translations match Lesson 5 ยท one contradiction in the book's own pages is flagged in ยง5

1. ู‚ุงุณูู… ูˆุณุงู„ูู… โ€” how many meals?

2. ุงู„ู…ูุถูŠููŽุฉ ูˆุงู„ู…ูุณุงููุฑูŽุฉ โ€” the meal service

Two women, so every verb here carries Unit 4's feminine ู€ูŠู†ูŽ ending, and โ€œpleaseโ€ is ู…ูู†ู’ ููŽุถู’ู„ููƒู with ู€ูƒู.

3. ุงู„ุฒูŽู‘ูˆู’ุฌ ูˆุงู„ุฒูŽู‘ูˆู’ุฌูŽุฉ โ€” the guests

4. The pair-work model (p.5)

The book's instruction: ุชูŽุจุงุฏูŽู„ู ุงู„ุญููˆุงุฑูŽ ู…ูŽุนูŽ ุฒูŽู…ูŠู„ููƒูŽุŒ ูƒูŽู…ุง ููŠ ุงู„ู…ูุซุงู„ู โ€” swap this exchange with your classmate, following the example. ุทูก / ุทูข are student 1 and student 2.

5. Two short readings (p.6)

The same material written about people instead of spoken by them. Every verb moves to the ูŠูŽู€ / ุชูŽู€ he-and-she form. Read a sentence at a time.

ุฒูŽูŠู’ู†ูŽุจ

ู‚ุงุณูู… ูˆุณุงู„ูู…

This passage contradicts page 1

On page 1 ุณุงู„ูู… eats three meals and weighs 100 kilos; ู‚ุงุณูู… eats one and weighs 60. This passage swaps the two men โ€” and swaps their lunches as well. It is the book's own slip, not yours. It is reproduced here exactly as printed, because the six questions underneath are asked about this text; answer them from what you read here.
