Exam 3 · the paper after Units 7–8
One win: sit the book's review test on study and work, exercise for exercise, and find out whether the timetable, the faculties, the jobs and the counting have stuck. Every content word on it is from Units 7 and 8.
How the marking works
Each item is marked the moment you answer it, and only a first answer earns the mark, as in the exam. You can keep trying until it is right (that is the learning), but the box will not move. The first exercise is the one the page cannot mark for you: say your words aloud, then rate yourself honestly. Reload the page for a clean paper.

1. Read the paper first
You know every instruction on this paper but one. Hear them, know what they ask, move on. They are for reading a paper, not for conversation.

Recognise, don't drill
جُزْأَيِ الجُمْلَةِ is “the two parts of the sentence”, and the group labels in exercise 1 are plain nouns you can read through: مِهَن professions · أَماكِن places · أَشْخاص people · أَوْقات times. None is carded.

why each one
١ a child, among places of study · ٢ a break, among school subjects · ٣ a school stage, among the university's subjects · ٤ a field (education), among people · ٥ a noun, among verbs · ٦ a board, among places · ٧ a noun, among question words.
٣- أَكْمِلِ الجُمَلَ بِالكَلِماتِ التّالِيَةِ.
– / 6Complete the sentences with the words in the bank. The same six chips appear under every gap; each is used once. Every sentence is a line from a Unit 7 or Unit 8 page.
التَّمْريض · مُهَنْدِساً · حِصَصٍ · أَطْفالٌ · أَشْهُرٍ · سُعودِيَّةٌ
“The holiday is three …”
العُطْلَةُ ثَلاثَةُ ___.
أَشْهُرٍ
Unit 7's timetable dialogue: العُطْلَةُ ثَلاثَةُ أَشْهُرٍ. A plural after three, and ثَلاثَةُ keeps its ة because شَهْر is a he-noun.
“I study …”
أَدْرُسُ ___.
التَّمْريض
The fourth student in Unit 8: أَدْرُسُ التَّمْريضَ. Said with the ending, because it is what is studied.
“I study six … a day.”
أَدْرُسُ سِتَّ ___ في اليَوْمِ.
حِصَصٍ
Unit 7 dialogue 3: أَدْرُسُ سِتَّ حِصَصٍ في اليَوْمِ. سِتَّ has no ة, which tells you the noun is a she-noun before you have chosen it.
“Do you have …?”
هَلْ لَكَ ___؟
أَطْفالٌ
Unit 8's frame 5: هَلْ لَكَ أَطْفالٌ؟ The thing you have keeps its -un.
“I work as …”
أَعْمَلُ ___.
مُهَنْدِساً
Unit 8 dialogue 1: أَعْمَلُ مُهَنْدِساً. The ـاً is the giveaway: a job after a verb.
“My name is Ilham; I am …”
اِسْمي إِلْهام، أَنا ___.
سُعودِيَّةٌ
Unit 7 dialogue 2, word for word: اِسْمي إِلْهام. أَنا سُعودِيَّةٌ.

two pairs that could swap
أَعْمَلُ مُدَرِّسَةً (a woman: I work as a teacher) and سَأَكونُ في الشَّرِكَةِ (I'll be at the company) are both good Arabic, so the paper has two right answers for those two rows. The key follows the units' printed frames: Unit 7's سَأَكونُ + a job in ـةً, Unit 8's أَعْمَلُ في + a place. If you joined them the other way, you understood the grammar; the paper simply wanted the book's lines. Also note the joining vowels the full sentences need: بَدَأَتِ الحِصَّةُ · اُكْتُبِ المَوادَّ.
٢- أَكْمِلْ بِوَضْعِ الكَلِمَةِ الصَّحيحَةِ مِمّا بَيْنَ القَوْسَيْنِ.
– / 5Complete with the right word from the brackets. Both chips are real words; only one fits the frame.
“I have five children.”
لي خَمْسَةُ ___.
أَطْفال
After 3–10 the counted noun is plural: لي خَمْسَةُ أَطْفالٍ (Unit 8 dialogue 3).
“Do you like your work, Zaynab?”
هَلْ ___ عَمَلَكِ يا زَيْنَبُ؟
تُحِبّينَ
Zaynab is a woman, and عَمَلَكِ already says so: the verb takes ـينَ.
“I will work as an engineer, God willing.”
سَأَعْمَلُ ___ إِنْ شاءَ اللهُ.
مُهَنْدِساً
The job after a verb ends ـاً and takes no الـ (Lesson 8 §1).
“I study medicine.”
أَنا ___ الطِّبَّ.
أَدْرُسُ
After أَنا the verb opens on أَ. يَدْرُسُ is “he studies”.
“I work seven hours.”
أَعْمَلُ سَبْعَ ___.
ساعاتٍ
After 3–10, the plural: سَبْعَ ساعاتٍ. And سَبْعَ has no ة because ساعَة is a she-noun.

اِقْرَأِ الفِقْرَةَ ثُمَّ أَجِبْ بِنَعَمْ أَوْ بِلا.
– / 4Read the paragraph aloud before 🔊. It is Unit 8's teacher passage moved to a university. Open the meaning only if you must.
meaning
Zaynab is a teacher at the university. She goes to the university at seven in the morning. The teaching day starts at eight and ends at one in the afternoon. Zaynab teaches four periods a day, and she teaches Arabic. In the break she goes to the library.
The figure ٤ is said أَرْبَعَ حِصَصٍ: no ة, because حِصَّة is a she-noun; the audio says it that way. بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ, “after noon”, is another way to say what Unit 7 said with ظُهْراً. تُدَرِّسُ, with the shadda, is teaches (Lesson 8 §4).

the trap
Item ٢: both hours are in the passage, one sentence apart. She goes at seven; the day starts at eight. Item ٣: she teaches Arabic, not Islamic studies (Unit 8's Fatima taught both).
5. Your paper
0 / 400 of 40 answered
Where a lost mark sends you:
- Exercises 1 and 2 (words). The Unit 7 and Unit 8 decks, meaning → Arabic direction.
- Exercise 3 (the word bank). The Unit 7 and Unit 8 readers: every line on it is a dialogue line.
- Exercise 4 (halves). Lesson 7 §1–§3 for the past and سَأَكونُ; Lesson 8 §1 for أَعْمَلُ.
- Exercise 5 (brackets). Counting: Numbers §4; the job after a verb and the woman's ـينَ: Lesson 8.
- Reading. Fatima's day in the Unit 8 reader, then this paragraph again.
Which two exercises on this paper cost you marks, and which page fixes each?
Your own answer; write it down, that is next session's plan. If none did, the paper is done: move on with the class.
6. Where this came from
- The textbook (Al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk, Book 1), اِخْتَبِرْ نَفْسَكَ
(الوَحْدَتانِ ٧-٨), book pp.215–216, read from the book PDF in your library.
Transcribed 2026-10-05 with a worked key, marked
[key]because the book prints none. The marks are the printed tick-box numbers, and p.216 ends «= ٤٠». - Units 7–8 for every content word (checked at ingest against the Unit 7 and Unit 8 word sets and transcriptions). Nothing on the paper is beyond those two units except the rubric and the clock phrase بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ.
- The two-way joining in exercise 4 follows the units' frames: Unit 7 p.175 frame 1 (سَأَكونُ + a job) and Unit 8 p.201 frame 4 (أَعْمَلُ في + a place).
A paper is a photograph of one day. Do it once cold, note which exercises leaked, revise those pages, and sit it again after a few days; the second score is the one that means something. Next in the book is the mid-term, which tests all eight units. Anything unclear? Bring it to your teacher, in class.
