Arabic · Practice Paper 2 · after Units 5–6

Exam 2 · the paper after Units 5–6

One win: sit the book's second 40-mark review test, exercise for exercise, and find out whether the meals and the prayers have stuck. Every word on it is one you have; one exercise type is new, and it is the mirror of one you have already done.

Reproduced from the class test (2 pages, photos in your library) · seven exercises · marks as printed, except that page 1's boxes are cropped out of the photo · ≈35 minutes · revise first: Lesson 5, Lesson 6, Prepositions

How the marking works

Each item is marked the moment you answer it, and only a first answer earns the mark, as in the exam. You can keep trying until it is right (that is the learning), but the box will not move. The paper keeps its printed order; do §3–§5 in one sitting, timed if you like. Reload the page for a clean paper.

Your browser has no Arabic voice installed, so the 🔊 buttons will stay silent. On a Mac: System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → add an Arabic voice (e.g. “Majed”). The paper still works without audio.

1. Read the paper first

Most of the rubric is Exam 1's. Three lines are new: hear them, know what they ask, move on. These are for reading a paper, not for conversation.

On the paperIt asks🔊
صِلْ بَيْنَ الكَلِمَةِ في (أ) وما يُناسِبُها في (ب)join each word in (أ) to what goes with it in (ب)
ضَعْ عَلامَةَ (X) عَلى الكَلِمَةِ الغَريبَةِput an X on the odd word out (Exam 1)
أَكْمِلِ الجُمَلَ بِالكَلِماتِ التّالِيَةِcomplete the sentences with the following words
صَحِّحِ الأَخْطاءَcorrect the errors: new on this paper
أَكْمِلْ بِوَضْعِ الكَلِمَةِ الصَّحيحَةِ مِمّا بَيْنَ القَوْسَيْنِcomplete with the right word from the brackets (Exam 1)
اِقْرَأِ الفِقْرَةَ، ثُمَّ أَجِبْ بِنَعَمْ (✓) أَوْ بِلا (X)read the paragraph, then answer yes or no (Exam 1)

Recognise, don't drill

صَحِّحْ (correct!) joins Exam 1's صِلْ · ضَعْ · أَكْمِلْ · اِقْرَأْ · أَجِبْ. Since Exam 1, Unit 6 has put ضَعْ and اِقْرَأْ on a class page as commands you make yourself (Lesson 6 §2); the rest are still rubric. الأَخْطاء is “the errors”, التّالِيَة “the following”, ما يُناسِبُها “what goes with it”.

2. One new exercise: find the planted error

Exam 1 gave you two forms in brackets and asked for the right one. This paper writes the wrong one into a sentence and asks you to find it. Same pairs, turned round. Watch how each error is planted; press ▶ or step with ‹ ›:

١ تَطْلُبُ … يا فاطِمَةُ؟

A woman is addressed with the man's verb. The name at the end fixes the gender; the ending must follow: تَطْلُبينَ.

٢ ثَلاثَ وَجْبَةً

A number from 3 to 10 with a singular after it. The counted thing goes plural: وَجَباتٍ (Numbers).

٣ المَسْجِدُ بَعيدَةٌ

A he-noun with a she-adjective. Agreement: بَعيدٌ.

٤ إِلى المَكَّةَ

A name with الـ stuck on. Mecca never takes it: مَكَّةَ.

٥ يَنْتَظِرْ أَنا ذاهِبٌ مَعَكَ

A he-form where a command belongs. Drill 5's machine: يَنْتَظِرُ ← اِنْتَظِرْ.

Two things on this paper the class has not taught

بَعيدٌ عَنِ البَيْتِ, “far from the house”: عَنْ is a preposition no class page has used yet (قَريبٌ مِنَ is the one Unit 6 gave you). Before الـ it joins with -i, عَنِ, like أَوِ. And the passage says سَيُسافِرُ · سَيُصَلّي, Unit 4's سَـ on a he-form for the first time. Read both; neither is asked for.

3. أَوَّلاً: المُفْرَدات · Vocabulary, 21 marks

The photo of page 1 is cut off above exercise 1, so the section heading and its three mark-boxes are not visible. The three exercises have seven items each, and the paper's total (٤٠) closes only at 7 + 7 + 7, so that is how they are marked here.

١) صِلْ بَيْنَ الكَلِمَةِ في (أ) وما يُناسِبُها في (ب).

– / 7

Each word in (أ) is printed with “and …” after it. Join it to its partner in (ب): an opposite, or the word it always goes with. Tap one, then the other.

  1. طَعامٌ و…
  2. نَحيفٌ و…
  3. شايٌ و…
  4. لَحْمٌ و…
  5. قَليلٌ و…
  6. يَأْكُلُ و…
  7. قَريبٌ و…
  1. سَمين
  2. دَجاج
  3. شَراب
  4. كَثير
  5. قَهْوَة
  6. بَعيد
  7. يَشْرَب

١ ج · ٢ أ · ٣ هـ · ٤ ب · ٥ د · ٦ ز · ٧ و

why each pair

Four opposites: thin and fat, little and much, near and far, and (in its way) eats and drinks. Three natural pairs: food and drink, tea and coffee, meat and chicken. All from Unit 5's table and Unit 6's mosque argument.

٢) ضَعْ عَلامَةَ (X) عَلى الكَلِمَةِ الغَريبَةِ.

why each one

١ the call, among prayers · ٢ hungry, among drinks · ٣ a drink, among foods · ٤ “food” itself, among the three meals · ٥ a table, among states of a person · ٦ the night, among verbs · ٧ an alarm clock, among places.

٣) أَكْمِلِ الجُمَلَ بِالكَلِماتِ التّالِيَةِ.

– / 7

Complete the sentences with the words in the bank. The same seven chips appear under every gap (shuffled; the bank is printed above in the paper's order); each is used once. The second half of each line is the clue.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

“Do you drink …? No, I prefer coffee.”

هَلْ تَشْرَبُ ___؟ لا، أُفَضِّلُ القَهْوَةَ.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

الشّاي

Unit 5's plane dialogue: هَلْ تَشْرَبينَ الشّايَ؟ لا، أُفَضِّلُ القَهْوَةَ. Said with the ending: الشّايَ.

“What do you prefer from the …? Dates.”

ماذا تُفَضِّلُ مِنْ ___؟ التَّمْرَ.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

الفاكِهَة

Dates are fruit. Once the word is in, مِنْ joins: مِنَ الفاكِهَةِ. And تُفَضِّلُ to a man is the plain you-form Unit 5 never printed; the paper supplies it.

“What will you (f.) have from the …? Rice and fish.”

ماذا تَطْلُبينَ مِنْ ___؟ الأَرُزَّ والسَّمَكَ.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

الطَّعام

Rice and fish are food, not drink: مِنَ الطَّعامِ, the air hostess's first question.

“Are you …? No, I'm fine.”

هَلْ أَنْتَ ___؟ لا، أَنا بِخَيْرٍ.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

مَريض

Unit 6 dialogue 3, word for word: هَلْ أَنْتَ مَريضٌ؟ لا، أَنا بِخَيْرٍ.

“Where do you pray …? In the Sacred Mosque, God willing.”

أَيْنَ تُصَلّي ___؟ في المَسْجِدِ الحَرامِ، إِنْ شاءَ اللهُ.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

الجُمُعَة

The travellers' question: أَيْنَ سَتُصَلّي الجُمُعَةَ؟ The paper drops the سَـ; the answer is the same.

“Do you wake up …? No.”

هَلْ تَسْتَيْقِظُ ___؟ لا.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

مُتَأَخِّراً

Unit 6 dialogue 1 asks exactly this; there قُصَيّ says yes, here the answer is no.

“Why are you …? For the prayer in the Prophet's Mosque.”

لِماذا أَنْتَ ___؟ لِلصَّلاةِ في المَسْجِدِ النَّبَوِيِّ.

الجُمُعَة · مُتَأَخِّراً · الفاكِهَة · مَريض · الطَّعام · الشّاي · مُسافِر

مُسافِر

لِلصَّلاةِ answers لِماذا أَنْتَ مُسافِرٌ؟ in dialogue 2. The other chip that fits after أَنْتَ, مَريض, is already used.

4. ثانِياً: التَّراكيب والنَّحْو · Structures & grammar, 11 marks

١) صَحِّحِ الأَخْطاءَ.

– / 6

Correct the errors. Each sentence has one wrong word: read it aloud, tap the word that is wrong, then open the fix and say the sentence right. On paper you would write the correction; here the mark is for finding it.

  1. ذاهِبٌ
  2. لِلمَسْجِدِ
  3. يَنْتَظِرْ
  4. مَعَكَ
the fixes, and why

١ a woman gets the ـينَ ending · ٢ a man does not · ٣ after 3–10 the thing counted is plural · ٤ المَسْجِد is a he-noun, so بَعيدٌ · ٥ a name takes no الـ · ٦ يَنْتَظِرْ is a he-form with its ending cut, which is nothing; the command is اِنْتَظِرْ (drill 5). Sentence ٦ also has لِلمَسْجِدِ where the dialogue says إِلى المَسْجِدِ; لِـ “to” is real Arabic, so the mark here is for the verb, but say it the book's way.

٢) أَكْمِلْ بِوَضْعِ الكَلِمَةِ الصَّحيحَةِ مِمّا بَيْنَ القَوْسَيْنِ.

– / 5

Complete with the right word from the brackets. Both chips are real words; only one fits the frame.

“Are you ill, Fatima?”

هَلْ أَنْتِ ___ يا فاطِمَةُ؟

مَريضٌ · مَريضَةٌ

مَريضَةٌ

أَنْتِ and يا فاطِمَةُ both say “woman”, so the describing word takes ة: Unit 1's agreement machine on Unit 6's word.

“I'm going to the mosque.”

أَنا ذاهِبٌ ___ المَسْجِدِ.

إِلى · في

إِلى

Going to; في would put him already inside. Unit 6 drill 2 (Prepositions §2).

“Where do you pray Friday prayer?” (with the tag pronoun)

أَيْنَ تُصَلّي الجُمُعَةَ ___؟

هُوَ · أَنْتَ

أَنْتَ

تُصَلّي is the you-form, so the pronoun that echoes it is أَنْتَ, as in Unit 5's وماذا تَأْكُلُ أَنْتَ؟

“Do you wake up early?”

هَلْ ___ مُبَكِّراً؟

تَسْتَيْقِظُ · اِسْتَيْقِظْ

تَسْتَيْقِظُ

After هَلْ a question is asked, not an order given. اِسْتَيْقِظْ مُبَكِّراً is the command from dialogue 1; هَلْ تَسْتَيْقِظُ is the question from Unit 4.

“Why are you travelling to Mecca, Fatima?”

لِماذا أَنْتِ ___ إِلى مَكَّةَ يا فاطِمَةُ؟

مُسافِرَةٌ · مُسافِرٌ

مُسافِرَةٌ

As item ١: أَنْتِ and the name fix the gender; drill 6 prints أَنْتِ مُسافِرَةٌ.

5. ثالِثاً: القِراءَة · Reading, 8 marks

اِقْرَأِ الفِقْرَةَ، ثُمَّ أَجِبْ بِنَعَمْ (✓) أَوْ بِلا (X).

– / 8

Read the paragraph aloud before 🔊. It is Unit 6's two travellers told about one man, with Unit 1's nationality frame in front and Unit 3's weekday at the end. Open the meaning only if you must.

meaning

Muhammad is from Egypt; he is Egyptian. Muhammad is travelling to Mecca, for the prayer in the Sacred Mosque. He will travel to Mecca by bus. Muhammad will pray the five prayers in the Sacred Mosque: fajr, ẓuhr, ʿaṣr, maghrib and ʿishāʾ. Muhammad is going to Medina on Thursday. Muhammad will pray Friday prayer in the Prophet's Mosque, God willing.

سَيُسافِرُ، سَيُصَلّي: Unit 4's سَـ on a he-form, for the first time. يَوْمَ الخَميسِ ends in the -a the prepositions chapter calls the missing preposition; this paper prints it the way Unit 4 does.

  1. نَعَمْ (✓)
  2. لا (X)
the one that is not in the text

Item ٨: nothing in the paragraph mentions the family. As on Exam 1, a statement the text does not make is لا. Items ٣, ٤, ٥ and ٦ each contradict one sentence: بِالحافِلَةِ · في المَسْجِدِ الحَرامِ · يَوْمَ الخَميسِ · في المَسْجِدِ النَّبَوِيِّ. Item ٢ needs two sentences: Mecca now, Medina on Thursday.

6. Your paper

0 / 400 of 40 answered

Where a lost mark sends you:

Which two exercises on this paper cost you marks, and which page fixes each?

Your own answer; write it down, that is next session's plan. If none did, the paper is done: move on with the class.

7. Where this came from

  1. The class test (Al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk, Book 1, the review paper after Units 5–6), pp.1–2: the last two screenshots in library/raw/exam 2/ (the first three are Unit 6's own exercise pages, and belong to Lesson 6). Transcribed 2026-09-20 with a worked key, marked [key] because the paper prints none. Marks for sections two and three are the printed tick-box numbers and the total is the printed «= ٤٠»; section one's boxes are cropped out of the photo and its 21 marks are inferred (7 + 7 + 7, the count that closes the total).
  2. Units 5–6 class pages for every content word (checked at ingest: each one is in a unit's word set or transcription). Only عَنْ, the he-form future سَيُسافِرُ · سَيُصَلّي, the man's تُفَضِّلُ, the feminine مَريضَةٌ and the rubric lines are not on a class page.
  3. Wiktionary (checked 2026-09-20) for the new rubric lemmas: صحح (صَحِّحْ: correct, rectify) · خطأ (خَطَأ, plural أَخْطاء: error, mistake) · تالي (following, next) · ناسب (to suit, to go with) · عن (preposition: from, away from, off); and for بَعيد, whose entry lists “far, remote, distant”.
  4. The item-٦ note follows Unit 6 dialogue 3 and drill 5 (يَنْتَظِرُ ← اِنْتَظِرْ); the لِلمَسْجِدِ remark follows Unit 3's لِلمَطْبَخِ and the prepositions chapter's لِـ row.

A paper is a photograph of one day. Do it once cold, note which exercises leaked, revise those pages, and sit it again after a few days; the second score is the one that means something. When the class hands out the next test, drop its photos in the library and it will get the same treatment. Anything unclear? Bring it to your teacher, in class.
